Dracula's Castle and Dracula himself(India Jackson)

Dracula's castle based on the real life Bran castle in Transylvania, Romania. Dracula, published in 1897, is about a vampire who carries out heinous acts for torture and murder. Count Dracula is based on the real life Vlad the Impaler, who was said to have resided in Bran Castle. Vlad the Impaler got his name from impaling his enemies with spears and leaving them hanging around his castle. The vast size of his castle allows Dracula to stay hidden from the outside world, and thus his evil acts remain hidden as well.

Dracula's castle transforms from a regular castle, to a lair of evil and a sentient being. The castle seems to take on a life of its own throughout the novel. It becomes a malevolent presence throughout the book. The castle is hinted to have supernatural powers. It can lure people into its threshold and influence them, which is how Dracula attracts his victims. The castle is also suspected of being able to shapeshift, so if a victim tries to escape, the castle can transform and trap the victim within its walls. An element of dread is present throughout the novel and aside from the actions of Dracula himself, the dread can be largely attributed the the castle, which casts gloom over the surrounding area.

Since the character Count Dracula is based on the real life Vlad the Impaler, an element of darkness is present around the novel before anyone even opens it. Vlad the Impaler committed heinous acts of murder and torture. He impaled his victims and left their bodies to rot while hanging up on spears in the castle and on the castles grounds. Just like in the novel, the real life Bran Castle also transforms from a regular castle to a lair of evil, due to the actions of Vlad the Impaler. Bran Castle has no magical powers and is inherently just a regular piece of architecture, but the actions of it's inhabitant cast a dark gloom around the castle that will remain there forever, now that it is embedded in history.
